Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m Beau, 42 and live in Sydney. I’m currently an operations manager for a Horticulture/Landscaping company that has been operating in Sydney for the past 25 years.
I started a Greenkeeper apprenticeship in 1997 working on bowling greens then eventually onto golf courses which I continued for the next 15 years until I had a change of career turning to computer programming which I didn’t enjoy at all. Working in the sun and being outdoors doing physical work has always been my thing.
Hobbies include, Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, running, reading, movies, dining out, diving and surrounding myself with good people.
What course are you studying with Upskill Online? How did you find it?
I’m studying the specialist Horticulture course at the moment, as I want to advance myself as education is the key for future employment opportunities.
I’m finding this course good with the website being easy to navigate and support are always on hand to help if I have problems.
Did you feel supported? What was your favourite part of your studies?
Yes I feel supported. They have been very helpful, emails are always replied too. My favourite part is the easy access of the site. No glitches.
Are you currently working in this field?
Yes I am. Horticulture manager. Managing 5 -10 people at a time on jobs.
We have a maintenance team and a landscaping team. I manage the maintenance aspect.
Do you have any advice for others looking to studying online?
Studying online isn’t always easy as you have to motivate yourself. I set aside one hour per day, phone away, no TV, no distractions. I even set a timer for one hour, letting me know when my time is up.
Online study is a great self-paced way to deepen your knowledge base and break into a new line of work, or even get you to the next level in your current career path.
